Rihanna Pulls out of Super Bowl Halftime Show in Support of Colin Kaepernick

The National Football League is a worldwide organization which is worth around $62.9 billion dollars, averaging around $1.97 billion dollars per team.  The Super Bowl is noteworthy for some of the most important moments to ever take place on a football field.  However, something that consumers pay just as much attention to as the game, is the halftime show.  Many great performers have been a part of the halftime show: Justine Timberlake, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Coldplay to name a few.  Ever since the Colin Kaepernick controversy(Click Here if you want to read more about the Colin Kaepernick controversy) many famous celebrities have chosen to take a stance against the NFL.

One of the worlds most famous singers, Rihanna, has publicly chosen her stance.  News broke recently that Rihanna had rejected the Super Bowl halftime show this year in support of Colin Kaepernick.  Maroon 5 is set to play at this years Super Bowl, however, many are asking them to pull out and show support for Kaepernick.

Do you think Rihanna made the right decision by pulling out of the Super Bowl?  What decision would you have made if you were in Rihanna’s position?

  1. I certainly think she has the right to do this, so I have no issues with what she did. Moreover, I can't relate to being a superstar (unless you consider a former bowling coach a "superstar"), so I can't even relate to being in her position.

What I do find interesting, though, is the idea of a celebrity using her status in order to make a political statement. Does this seem genuine? A publicity stunt? Problematic because celebrities have more influence than former bowling coaches?

  2. I think that is a great point. However, what about her integrity? She may think that even taking the money and donating it to a great cause is even worth performing. Also, imagen how many people she would draw into the Super Bowl because she has a worldwide fan base. She would be giving the Super Bowl more of an advantage then she would be getting even if she donated to a charity. However, I do wonder what charity she would donate to?
