How “Shadow Banning” has caused uproar in the Political World

After this weeks midterm elections, many people were left happy, and others were feeling confused.  We have people in the United States who fear for the future of this country, they fear we are going in the wrong direction.  Others feel as if we couldn’t be doing better.  However, there is one thing to never question; that is the fact that we should be able to say whatever we want without fear of consequences.  Recently, companies have been called into light for “ Shadow Banning”.

Shadow Banning is the concept in which businesses and companies with Free Speech platforms limit the Free Speech of the people using their platform.  For example, Donald Trump called Twitter out a few months ago for Shadow Banning, (Click Here) to read more about the tweet in reference.  He stated that Twitter was Shadow Banning multiple prominent Republican/Conservative voices in the media.

News/Media Companies have commented on the act of Shadow Banning such as Fox News and Business Insider.  The President is one of the most prominent figures to talk about Shadow Banning.  Many people in the media have commented their feelings on the topic, stating that it limits the amount of Free Speech we are given.

I would now like to turn the conversation over to you and pose a few questions.  Do you think Twitter is actually Shadow Banning Conservative voices?  Would the reaction be the same if Democrats voices were the ones in question?  Do you think this is happening on other media platforms?

  1. I don't know enough about the Twitter to know whether or not they're "shadow banning" members of the GOP specifically, but I do think this idea has a great connection to our earlier discussion on free speech. I'd like to see cases when someone has been shadow banned; for instance, is it when they've posted speech that the company deems is hate speech or dangerous speech?
